Date Night

Hooray for Steve Carell and Tina Fey, whose individual talent and combined chemistry are the best parts of an otherwise ordinary comedy. Let’s hope this is only the first of many movies they make together.

The White Ribbon

How could the German people – a civilized, advanced culture – give rise to Hitler and the horrors of the Third Reich? Writer/director Michael Haneke, working in black and white with subtitles, suggests the answer by showing us the outwardly normal but inwardly brutal inhabitants of a German village in the months leading up to World War I.
