LIVE WELL OMAHA KIDS ANNOUNCES 5-4-3-2-1 GO! CAMPAIGN TO FIGHT CHILDHOOD OBESITY

August 26th, 2009 admin

OMAHA, Neb. (March 30, 2009) Live Well Omaha Kids, a community coalition formed in 2006 by Alegent Health and Our Healthy Community Partnership (OHCP), announced today plans for the official launch of its 5-4-3-2-1 Go! campaign promoting healthy habits in Omaha’s youth and combating the growing epidemic of childhood obesity. The 5-4-3-2-1 Go! campaign outlines suggested daily servings of fruits, vegetables, water and dairy products, as well as hours of screen time and physical activity. The mission of the coalition states that by 2011, all Omaha children will achieve measurable improvements in nutrition, physical activity and healthy living supported by community collaboration and the environments in which they live.

Dr. Molly O’Dell, 5-4-3-2-1 Go! executive committee member and family practitioner, commented on the significance of 5-4-3-2-1 Go!, “We have collaborated on this initiative with Omaha healthcare, government, service providers, business and community leaders at the highest level. Together, through awareness, education and shared resources, we intend to change the current nutritional, physical and lifestyle culture of youth within our community.”

Beginning in the fall of 2009, the campaign will be introduced to Omaha area schools through high-energy assemblies and interactive programs developed to help children improve habits and adopt healthy lifestyle behaviors. A mass media effort including television, radio billboards and Web initiatives also will serve to establish brand awareness.
